Man Leads Police On Two Separate Foot Pursuits Prior To Arrest
A Lawrenceburg man was arrested during the weekend after leading police officers on two separate foot pursuits.
Christopher Lee Cooper, age 35, was arrested at his home in the early hours Sunday.
An officer with the Lawrenceburg Police Department reported that the officers had been searching for Cooper after receiving a report that he was driving drunk while armed with a pistol.
The reporting officer located the vehicle as Cooper was traveling northbound along Prosser Road.
The officer indicates that when Cooper saw him he stopped, then made an abrupt turn into a yard and ran his vehicle into a ditch. He reports that Cooper exited the driver’s door holding a bottle of liquor, then began to flee on foot.
According to the officer he initially gave chase, but stopped as he passed the vehicle and noticed a female passenger was exiting. He instructed her to remain where she was, causing him to lose sight of Cooper.
He says he spotted him a few moments later several yards away. He indicates that he began to pursue Cooper, but again lost sight of him. He then awaited the arrival of backup.
Officers were unable to locate Cooper at that time, but report finding him at his 315A Brannon Street home a couple of hours later. The reporting officer indicates that Cooper again fled on foot, but was apprehended shortly afterwards.
Cooper was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center where he was booked on charges that include driving on a suspended license and evading arrest. He was assigned a December 5 appearance in general sessions court.
